it's been a while
It's been quite a while since I last blogged; and before you really can think about it, attachment's almost over. The coming week will be week 8 - how time flies - and I've been in my school for 2 months.
At the beginning I must admit tt I was quite unhappy with the school system in general, as well as the challenging students that I had to face in class everyday. 2 months on, no miracle has happened - I still face my challenging classes everyday and come out of them exhausted and drained. But, I've come to adore some of my students in certain ways, and I know I *will* miss some of them when I leave.
My favourite class is one that only has 21 students; and it is in this class that I feel that I've accomplished the most, in terms of teaching, and learning. The class size is so perfect, and how wonderful and conducive the learning environment would be if all classes were this size! You get to teach, and you get to interact with the student on a more personal level.
In fact, this profession demands much more than I had thought it would; and there are times when I feel that what we do is undermined by society [after all, people think that we leave work at 2pm - let me tell you, that is a MYTH]. When you stay for 10 -11 hours at your workplace, you start to wonder: who really appreciates you and all that you do?
But when you get to interact with students outside of class; when you know that they like and enjoy your lessons.. somehow, it makes all the pain you go through somewhat worthwhile. I'm beginning to enjoy what I do, and I really hope that this feeling will stay with me in the next 3 years. After all, we all need motivation in our daily lives, and this is really a form of intrinsic motivation for me.
So I'm glad - glad that I'm in the profession I'm in. For now, that is. Hah.
On a not-so-separate note, the boyfriend has gone to Brunei again. He left earlier this month, and would be gone for abt a month. Somehow the days seem to go by faster cos I'm busy with work. In the blink of an eye, he's been gone for more than 2 weeks, and he'll be back in 2 weeks! The coming month seems to be filled with activities - attachment is ending in 2 weeks; we're going back to n.i.e.; the boyfriend's coming back; my parents are going away on vacation; the boyfriend's birthday month and bdae plans, and we're planning for a short trip in June! [which is like the only time I can leave SG]
Ooh the May agenda seems to be packed. Such fun. I'm definitely looking forward to the month of May! Hee
