Valentine's Day 2007
Okie I promised tt I would do a more detailed blog post on my V-day, so here goes.
The boyfriend had been thinking very hard on what surprise he could give me on V-day, and he's really into making hand-made stuff for me. Since he had already folded paper roses as a surprise gift while he was away in Thailand, he said he couldn't recycle the idea again. [pics of tt later] Hah. I wldn't have minded anyway - having someone actually do smthg for you instead of just buying it already makes the whole effort commendable.
But anyhow he managed to get another idea on what he wanted to do, and apparently he spent like, 1.5 weeks before V-day working on it nightly. Whereas for myself, I only started on my hand-made card like, 2 nights before the big day itself. *guilty look* But hey! My card still turned out quite perfect-looking, in my opinion, and I must mention tt I stayed up till 3 am on tuesday night just to complete it!
Haha, seems like I work best under pressure and tight deadlines. [I never used to be like this, you know. I blame my fellow Elang peeps for having transformed me into one of these last-min person. Hah. No malice intended here though.] I foresee the same situation surfacing after this CNY/mid-sem weekend, when all the projects' and essays' deadlines loom not-too-far-away ahead of me.
Back to the V-day narrative [I tend to get very easily waylaid into other topics], Chong told me tt there wld be no flowers this Valentine's when I asked him!! Made me a little disappointed tt it was our first Valentine and there wld be no flowers. Even though I told him prior to it tt I think flowers on V-day are a waste of money... BUT then again, which girl really means what she says? [Esp since its Valentine!]
Okie so I was resigned to the fact tt I wldn't be having flowers. And we were planning to postpone our V-day dinner to the 24th, so as to coincide with our 3rd mth of togetherness. Not too bad though, cos we were still going to meet up, have dinner and plans to stroll along the Esplanade [lovers' lane, I reckon]
And so 14 Feb dawned. And at 10.40am, while I was busy mopping the house [cos Mummy fell sick and I offered to help], the doorbell rang! There, in the hands of the delivery man, was a bouquet of brown bears, wrapped up in light blue chiffon paper, and all wrapped up prettily within a blue netting!
I actually took a pic of the inside of the card, because I wanted to show you how the boyfriend had decorated the inside. But then I realized tt the pic wld also show his words, and those are private! So you'd have to contend with the outside of it (: The delivery of the bears and the card warranted a call to Chong, with a few sniffles. Hee.
That evening when Chong came over to pick me up, I got the second surprise, the hand-made gift! Turns out tt the boyfriend had decided to put together a Winnie the Pooh collection of figurines made up entirely of beads, strung together by his very own hands! There's Winnie, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore, but the boyfriend had only managed to complete Winnie. [cos he said tt its a very difficult and challenging task to even put together one perfect figurine in time for V-day]
No matter, cos I intend for him to complete the rest at his own time. Hee.
This was the box that Winnie came in - see, there are 3 other empty slots for Piglet, Tigger & Eeyore!
And these are what I received from the boyfriend on our very first Valentine's! Oh there's another white wallet tt he got for me as well, but I forgot to include tt inside here. Hee.

And these are the paper roses tt Chong made for me! He had actually wanted to make a bouquet to present to me on our second "non-official" date, but realized tt he couldn't perfect the art in time. And so he placed them in a box, for me to open on our 2nd mth anniversary [while he was away in Thailand]
My boyfriend is damn sweet and romantic, what more can I say? (=
Another surprise was a suggestion to drop by at Haagen-Diaz Anchor Point since one of his friends was working there tt night [which meant tt we cld get either a discount or an extra scoop. hee] One Macademia Delight and a chocolate/mocha drink later, we headed down to the Esplanade for dinner! Saw couples like, everywhere. If I were single, I wldn't even step out on V-day and torture myself with the blissful looks of couples everywhere.
Post-dinner we strolled along the Singapore River. I think a ride down the river cruise wld have been super romantic, but too bad, it closed at 10pm. The uncle was nice enough to give us a brochure though, and explained the difference between a 30 min and 45 min ride. Heh.
Sitting down at the steps by the Merlion was again, another romantic thing to do, especially with your other-half. This other couple were blowing soap-bubbles out of a bottle - and the whole event of being with the boyfriend at the Merlion; sitting down and enjoying each other's company; with the night breeze blowing gently and bubbles floating around us, blown about by the wind - it seemed almost surreal. And it had a dreamlike quality to the whole scene as well. (= I think the only emotions I felt at tt point in time were contentment, and bliss.
You realize that even though the place may be the same as in the past, the person whom you're with makes all the difference in the world. And so, you create precious new memories, to store and to hold them close to your heart.
That wrapped up my Valentine's Day 2007, perfectly.
